Episode 537..

When the episode began with Myra and Lexie pining for their ex-cellmates and remembering them, I almost broke into a cold sweat. But panic over - no more misty flashback clips. Phew.

However, there was something close to flashbacks when the new prisoners arrived - as they included a reincarnation of Officer Yates, Mrs Kennedy from Neighbours, and Pippa from Home & Away.

The line that made me sit up and listen was from Ann - "Wentworth is a high security prison," she informed the new inmates. (I did my best not to laugh.) And as if to demonstrate how much tougher security is, Ann insisted that cutlery counts would take place after every meal, like in every other prison. "No wonder there are weapons floating around with all this sort of thing going on," she said, as if a penny had finally dropped after all those killings, bashings, suicide attempts and hostage-takings.

Not sure why it's the case, but I had the impression plants aren't usually allowed in prisoners' cells. Certainly in Bad Girls, flowers were very much against prison rules. But in Prisoner, in walks an inmate with a collection of houseplants. (One of the highlights of the episode had to Lou Kelly's face as Daphne got a pot plant from Willie. "You don't get an African Violet every day!")

Great to see Meg still couldn't resist a bit of a stir. Dennis handed her a mug of coffee, instructing her "Don't stir it," because he'd forgot and put sugar in it. Nice to see she completely ignored him and stirred it as soon as she'd put it down.

Best scene of the episode had to go to Joycie of course, with Merv..
Mervin: "I love you. Ever since that first night you caught me practicing my souffles."
Joyce: "Yes that was lovely, wasn't it."
Mervin: "You said my cooking was an art form, and I was an artist"
..etc etc, cue fake 'love story' music..
