Brand new opening mugshots of Lexie and Lou. Interesting, because at the time Lexie's photo would have been taken (when she was admitted) she had long 'Boy George' hair, not the new short style shown here.
More of the latest 'get-rid-of-Joan' plot, with her meeting with Andrew Fry, which was filmed in special hi-tech blurr-o-vision with all the ‘woop-woooooops’ again. She tried to explain to Fry about her "memory lapses", although I'd have thought an officer suffering blackouts like that would be such a dangerous liability in a prison, would have been out just as quickly as if she'd bashed a prisoner. Such a security risk. Er.. so naturally, they later decided to reinstate her. As for her going all vague in the middle of a bit of drama and staring at nothing in particular.. doesn’t seem all that unusual to me.
I liked the bit of pathos, with the solitary figure of Joan walking down the corridors, then hesitating at Anita's cell door, as Anita was knelt in prayer inside. A nice little touch.
Meg of course was all sincere sugary sympathy, "Joan, I've just heard what happened," and appeared along with her Siamese twin Dennis. Couldn't help notice that someone had given Dennis a haircut this episode. His mother, I'd guess.
Joan decided to visit her Doctor, the one whose name keeps changing all the time (I see he was Dr "Leary" today), and as soon he saw her sitting in the waiting room, he rushed her into his room, despite the two people waiting in front of her. "This one's urgent!" he told the nurse as she protested and he swished past her. Not sure how he could deduce from Joan’s comment about "something's not right" that it was 'urgent', let alone more serious than the patients he had not spoken to yet. Perhaps big advances had been made in the use of ESP as a diagnostic tool in Australia at that time. She had "Chronic Subdural Haemotoma" (or something that sounded similar) requiring immediate surgery. Reminded me of the very wonderful film Soapdish, where one soap character is diagnosed as having exploding brain fever - "we have to operate immediately - she could blow any minute!" Loved the synthesizer music during the "tense" operation, too. Classy.
Exciting scene when Lou was dragged out of Ann's office yelling, and after the door was shut, the yelling continued - sounding suspiciously like it was the other side of a propped-up plywood screen, rather than through a brick wall.
Another serious scene with Anita alone with someone, this time Meg. However, on this occasion the sickly wholesomeness and niceness was a bit more trying. Luckily Anita didn't have to suffer it for too long.
