Always a trouble maker and baddie's right hand woman. She had no major storylines of her own, but unlike other 'heavies' she turned out to be the surprise murderer of a principle character! After a brief appearance as a resident of Driscoll House, Frances soon turned up in Wentworth as a baddie's sidekick and troublesome bit part. At first she seemed to come as a pair with Phyllis Hunt, putting salt in Sonia Stevens' food, then taking over Minnie Donovan's meeting and declaring that Joan must be killed. (This led to an uncontrolled lynching of Joan and a near hanging.)
When Myra was sent to work in the kitchen some time later, it was with Phyllis and Frances again, and Gloria Payne (who had been sleeping with Myra's husband on the outside). Phyllis poured boiling water over Gloria, in a set-up that put the blame on Myra.
Soon after this, the gruesome twosome were joined by Alice Jenkins. While beating up Bobbie Mitchell, they were interrupted by Cass Parker, who came to defend her. Phyllis and Alice got away, but Cass was caught and punished for her attack on Frances.
Other bashings included Hannah Geldschmidt (who had deliberately taunted Lou and Frances to get herself beaten), and Marlene Warren, who was bashed by Marie, Frances and Reb while the other women were in the promptly-forgotten aerobics class.
During the Edna Pearson storyline, many scenes were cut from several versions of the episodes, which included scenes of Alice and Frances suffering mysterious stomach pains and sickness.
Deidre Keane was imprisoned, and Frances figures out that she was Reb's mother, and tormented her (without Reb stopping her). At around the same time, Sarah Higgins was murdered in her cell, and Myra tricked Frances into admitting she'd been the one who cut her throat. As a result, she was bashed by Myra and shunned by the other women. She accepted Lou's offer of drugs, and was found stoned in the shower block. Judy found her, and reported her concerns about Lou's drug dealing to Reb rather than Myra, thus emphasising the cracks in her (and the women's) relationship with Myra, and the success of Reb's deception.
Shortly after this, Lou, Fran and Alice were attempting to beat up Pixie. At the very same time, Myra was exposing Reb's by playing a tape of her saying "bugger the women", which was interrupted by Yemil Bakarta bursting in (who'd been mute since her arrival) suddenly uttering her first words trying to save Pixie.
Later, Frances joined up with Frank Burke, to sell LSD paper and cocaine crayons for Lou. After a final subplot, where she and Lou tried to strangle Myra with a guitar string, the last we saw of Frances was when Myra bashed her, as a way of isolating Lou by removing her support.
